After completing its third round of funding, Splitgate developer 1047 Games declares its goal to improve the game and venture into other “obsolete genres.”
IP news is not very often successful in today’s video game market. However, Splitgate managed to break through the mold. In fact, the game has become so popular that the developers have delayed the release date of Splitgate to ensure that the concurrent player base has adequate stability and server capacity to minimize wait times.
The co-founders of 1047 Games, the studio behind Splitgate, have said in the past that one of their biggest inspirations for the game was the Portal and Gate 2 Games. During their college years at Stanford University, they played them a lot and felt that the mechanic could adapt well to other genres. Using this idea, they decided to introduce this mechanic into the online competitive shooter genre and make Splitgate the stand-alone title that it is today.
Fortunately, the studio will be able to pursue its dream of creating new inventive IPs. Today, 1047 games announced from the official Splitgate Twitter account that he just passed his third round of funding and raised $ 100 million. The company explained that it will use the money to continue working on Splitgate and bring to life other “obsolete genres” that are otherwise dormant.
However, Ian Proulx, one of the co-founders, said it was a long-term goal. There are still problems with Splitgate that the company must address before considering switching to a new title. However, this fundraising goal should prove to be more than enough to meet the short and long term goals of the business.
Thankfully, the studio is moving fast across all departments to make sure this reality happens as quickly as possible. Additionally, the studio’s main investment firm, Lightspeed Venture Partners, said it was impressed with how much 1047 Games was able to do with so little funding. Lightspeed is proud to invest in companies that have a bold vision for innovation and are excited to see what else 1047 Games will achieve with more funding.
Hopefully 1047 Games will be able to make their dreams come true and bring Splitgate at even higher heights. The team showed their dedication to their craft and their loyal fans, which would be well deserved. There are already plans for a next-gen upgrade for the game and there is talk of a Switch and mobile version. With all this possibility of expansion, it is likely that Splitgate could soon be a major content in the shooter genre.
Splitgate is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
