Final Fantasy 14 tops RPG and Online Game of the Year at this year’s DICE Awards

This year’s DICE Awards arrive in late February in Las Vegas, and while the MMORPG category isn’t heavily represented, one game is up for two of this year’s main awards: Final Fantasy 14.

The 25th Annual DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Awards saw 51 different games nominated this year and voters began making their selections last night. Many of the award categories are very similar to what we would see at Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards, although DICE usually also celebrates some of the technical and design aspects of game development instead of just the “best” games in a certain category. .

One of the games that took the industry by storm last year was Final Fantasy 14, so seeing the Square Enix-developed MMORPG on the nominees list isn’t much of a shock. It’s an MMO that’s become so popular that the developer had to stop selling it – twice – in the last year to cope with hordes of gamers eager to check it out.

FFXIV is up for two awards, both RPG of the Year and Online Game of the Year. games like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous , Tales of Arise, Wildermyth and others are competing for RPG of the Year, while Halo: Infinite, Back 4 Blood and others argue Online GotY. Other categories at this year’s DICE Awards include Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Family Game of the Year, and Mandatory Game of the Year, which sees many of the same nominees from this year’s The Game Awards in attendance.

You can consult the full list of nominees on the official DICE Summit website. The awards will take place in Las Vegas on February 24 at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
